Now here’s the Christmas concert to beat.
The Wainwrights – Rufus and Martha – and the McGarrigles – Anna and Jane – take over the St. Denis Theatre Dec. 11 for A Not So Silent Night, a concert celebrating the season. The house band will be named The Kate McGarrigle Tribute Band for the occasion, in honour of the lamented singer-songwriter, who died in January last year. Chaim Tannenbaum, Joel Zifkin, Brad Albetta, Michel Pepin, Thomas Bartlett and Doug Wieselman are among the stellar musicians taking on the backup duties.
There is also the ever-intriguing promise of special guests.
All profits will go to the Kate McGarrigle Fund, which supports cancer care and research at the McGill University Cancer Centre and the teaching hospitals of McGill University.
This will be the sole Montreal performance before the clan presents it in New York.
Tickets, priced at $52.25 to $87.25, go on sale Oct. 1 at noon. Phone 514-790-1111 or go to ticketpro.ca.
